Глава II Анализ аббревиатур, употребляющихся в языке современной английской прессы

В практической работе представляется анализ аббревиатур, употребляющихся в англоязычных газетах разной тематики. Цель данной работы – определить тип сокращенной единицы, функцию, которую она выполняет в той или иной статье и выяснить какие типы сокращенных лексических единиц используются чаще всего.

В работе мы придерживаемся классификации А.П. Шаповаловой [Шаповалова, 1979, с. 80-83].Согласно данной классификации аббревиатуры подразделяются на следующие типы:

- Инициальные аббревиатуры:

а) буквенные

б) с цифрами

- Усечения:

1) Однокомпонентные сокращения, которые, как правило, представляют собой усечения слов до одного слога;

а) начало слова

б) конец слова

в) начало и конец слова

2) слоговые аббревиатуры

- Смешанный тип

Материалом исследования послужили несколько британских газет за июнь – июль 2013года: «The Independent», «The Irish Times», «The Teleghraph», «The Guardian». Было отобрано около 30 статей и более 30 аббревиатур.

Для анализа сокращенных единиц отобраны следующие темы: наука, бизнес и спорт. Это объясняется тем, что в публицистических статьях меньшая вероятность встретить аббревиацию, т.к. там содержится меньше терминологии.

Из статей, посвященных научной тематике, было отобрано 7 статей и 9 аббревиаций. В отобранных статьях поднимаются следующие темы: биологические эксперименты, космические исследования, медицина.

Во всех выше перечисленных примерах аббревиатуры не расшифровываются, можно предположить, что автор считает, что аббревиатура достаточно хорошо знакома читателю, ориентирующемуся в данной области.

Все сокращенные единицы научной тематики выполняют единую функцию - экономия выражения мысли и устранение избыточности информации. В некоторых примерах аббревиатура расшифровывается, а значит помимо экономного выражения мысли здесь еще функция создания исходной стилистической окраски, придание научности и весомости излагаемым фактам.

Из статей, посвященных бизнесу, было отобрано 11 статей и 12 аббревиатур. Статьи посвящены инвестициям, банковскому делу, ипотечному делу, финансам.

Ее нет смысла расшифровывать, т.к. 1) это универсальные финансовые термины 2) простой читатель вряд ли обращается в подобного рода источникам достаточно часто; в ином случае ему придется обращаться к справочникам, чтобы точно извлечь информацию из контекста.

Так же как и в предыдущем анализе (Тема «Бизнес») данные аббревиатуры не нуждаются в расшифровке, поскольку относятся к профессиональной сфере, и, скорее всего, рассчитаны на читателей, ориентирующихся в данной теме, хотя следует отметить, что для среднего читателя аббревиатуры более просты в понимании в целом, т.к. тема «Спорт» сама по себе предполагает большую осведомленность аудитории о событиях и деталях спортивной жизни.

Итак, анализ показал, что в современных англоязычных газетах преобладают инициальные аббревиатуры, которые выполняют две главные функции:

1. экономия выражения мысли и устранение избыточности информации;

2. функция стилистической окраски

Можно сделать выводы о том, что из всех рассмотренных сфер общественной жизни, в спортивной сфере среднестатистическому читателю проще ориентироваться, поскольку большинство аббревиатур известны во всем мире, поэтому не расшифровываются, т.к подразумевается, что читатель знает, о чем идет речь, или, в крайнем случае, может догадаться по контексту о том, что означают подобные сокращения. Если автор статьи расшифровывает аббревиатуры, то, скорее всего, он хочет более детально донести информацию до аудитории.

В сфере бизнеса большинство аббревиатур не расшифровываются, поскольку статьи данной тематики направлены на специалистов ориентированных в этой области.

Анализ научной темы показал, что раскрывается чаще всего значение тех аббревиатур, которые специфичны, употребляются в определенной узкопрофессиональной сфере и могут быть не понятны читателям.

Выводы по II главе

В течение последних десятилетий аббревиатура получила широкое распространение в различных сферах общественной жизни, прежде всего, в профессиональных сферах: экономика, финансы, наука, спорт.

Язык прессы, как известно, оказывает сегодня огромное влияние на динамику языкового развития и формирование языковых норм.

В практической главе мы постарались проанализировать различные типы аббревиатур, определить их функции и выяснить какие типы сокращенных лексических единиц используются чаще всего.

При анализе фактического материала нами были выявлены следующие особенности использования аббревиатур в современных англоязычных газетных изданиях:

- в каждой из рассмотренных тем превалируют инициальные аббревиатуры, в то время, как усеченные и смешанные сокращения встречаются значительно реже.

- аббревиатуры, принадлежащие к экономической сфере (в нашем случае «Бизнес») являются наиболее распространенными.

- Чаще всего раскрывается значение тех аббревиатур, которые редко используются и могут быть не знакомы читателям.

- Основной функцией аббревиации является экономия газетного текста и устранение избыточности информации.

- Аббревиатуры употребляются в языке довольно часто, так как это удобно как для устной, так и для письменной речи, потому что они обеспечивают экономию языковых средств, достаточно часто слово, стоящее за аббревиатурой – сложный комплекс, которым трудно оперировать.
